Who needs a dumbwaiter?
- 1
A restaurant on more than one floor
Carrying dishes up stairs slows service and raises the risk of accidents. A dumbwaiter makes the journey from kitchen to dining room a quiet, direct line.
- 2
A villa with a ground-floor kitchen
Sending meals to a dining room or bedrooms upstairs without someone climbing with a tray every time makes daily life in the home noticeably easier.
- 3
A central kitchen serving several levels
In small hotels, guesthouses and mixed-use buildings, a dumbwaiter connects the kitchen to distribution points without crowding the corridors.

Questions about Dumbwaiters
What is the difference between a dumbwaiter and a goods lift?
A dumbwaiter is a compact unit built to move dishes and light supplies between floors with no people inside, while a goods lift is larger and built for heavy loads. The choice between them depends on what you need to move and is settled by the engineer after the site survey.
Can a dumbwaiter be installed in an existing building?
Yes, in most cases it is possible to use an existing void or build a small shaft without major structural work, but this depends on the building layout and is confirmed precisely by the site survey.
What material is the dumbwaiter chamber made of?
The food chamber is made of stainless steel, which resists moisture, does not hold odours and can be wiped down between uses, making it the right choice for restaurants, commercial kitchens and villas alike.
Does a dumbwaiter need regular maintenance?
Yes, like any moving equipment a dumbwaiter needs periodic checks of the machine, ropes, doors and safety devices. Lift Barq provides post-installation maintenance across all Riyadh districts and reminds you when visits are due.
How much space is needed to install a dumbwaiter if no shaft already exists?
The space required varies from one project to another and depends on the unit size you need and the number of floors it will serve. In some buildings a narrow void between walls is sufficient; in others a small shaft is built. The site survey is what determines the exact requirements.
Does the Italian machine need frequent servicing?
No, the Italian machine is engineered for high efficiency and minimal maintenance. We provide servicing as you need it.
Can you install a dumbwaiter in a small restaurant?
Yes, we size the dumbwaiter to fit your restaurant's available space, whether small or large. We visit first to assess the location.
